Our fence slats are made with premium timber, finished to high standards and built to last for decades. They are available in 6ft, 7ft and 8ft lengths, making them a versatile choice for homeowners and designers who want to create stylish fence panels, gates, bin stores, and furniture.
The fence slats are made from high-quality timbers, known for their durability and low maintenance requirements. These timbers have many natural properties that offer many benefits, including resistance to decay, moisture, and insect damage. This makes them a great long-term investment.
Due to the robust nature of the timbers, maintenance is not required. However, there are significant benefits to maintaining the wood regularly. Customers can expect the warm tones of the timber to last longer if they are maintained consistently. If left to age naturally, the timber will slowly transform into an elegant silvery-grey appearance, a popular choice among customers. Should you have any questions regarding maintenance, please get in touch with one of our team members directly so we can provide further insight.
We offer three distinct types of slats to suit various aesthetic and functional needs:
Standard Slat (44mm x 17mm): Perfect for creating a classic slatted look with a sleek finish.
Wide Board Slat (94mm x 17mm): Ideal for those seeking a bolder, more pronounced panelling effect.
Interlocking Slat (61mm x 17mm): Offers a unique design feature that has increased privacy, adding depth and texture to your fence while enhancing privacy.
Each slat type is available in premium-grade timbers, including Canadian cedar, Alaskan yellow cedar, Douglas fir, Iroko, Red Grandis, Tulipwood, and Pressure-treated pine. These materials provide stunning visual appeal and ensure durability and longevity.
Sourcing timber from organisations certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) ensures environmental sustainability, social and economic benefits, and consumer confidence. These certifications guarantee that the timber comes from responsibly managed forests, preserving biodiversity, protecting ecosystems, and supporting communities.
Promoting responsible forest management ensures forests continue to thrive for future generations. This includes measures like replanting trees and using reduced-impact logging techniques to minimise environmental disturbance.
Below are some of the most commonly asked questions that relate to our range of timber slats.
6mm and 12mm gap sizes are the most common. The choice of gap size directly affects the number of slats required to complete a panel, where a larger gap size translates to fewer slats required. This can lead to cost savings, particularly in large fencing projects where the cost of materials can significantly impact the overall budget. By offering customised widths, heights, and gap sizes, we cater to a diverse range of design requirements, ensuring that each customer can achieve their desired aesthetic and functional outcome for their fencing project.
Yes, slats can be placed on both sides of a fence, and our double-sided fence panels are designed specifically for this purpose. The construction of these panels involves alternating slats on each side of the fence, creating a pattern that allows for some visibility through the gaps while maintaining privacy.
This layered approach ensures that one can see straight through the panel from no angle. Additionally, for those using concrete posts, it’s important to ensure that the combined thickness of the slats and any additional materials fits within the slots of the posts.
To construct a standard-sized slatted fence panel measuring 1800mm by 1800mm, the number of slats needed depends on the width of the slats chosen. For a panel using the standard 44mm slats with a 6mm gap between each, approximately 36 slats would be required.
In contrast, if opting for wider 94mm boards with the same 6mm gap, the panel would be built using only 18 slats. This variation in slat width affects the number needed to achieve a consistent and visually appealing design while ensuring the structural integrity of the fence panel.
Fence slats and battens are interchangeable terms. Southern UK uses ‘batten’ while the northern UK prefers ‘slat’.
